The source material, “Uglymug, Epicfighter,” began as a self-published web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in February 2015 and ran until October 2022. A manga adaptation illustrated by Osamu Kozuki followed, serializing in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan from November 2017 to December 2020. A light novel version was published in May 2018. Now, the story of a ridiculously strong but unbelievably ugly hero gets a trailer that gives viewers a glimpse of what's to be expected:

The premise itself is enough to pique interest. The series follows an ex-salesman named Shigeru who finds himself transported to another world… with some serious drawbacks. He's incredibly ugly, touching women causes him pain, and any attempts at sexual attempts will literally tear him apart! Despite these significant inconveniences – a comedic twist on the typical heroic journey – he’s also surprisingly strong, setting the stage for a hilarious and action-packed adventure. This unusual setup is what makes this story stand out.

The anime adaptation is being produced by Egg Firm with direction from Toshiyuki Sone (known for his work on “Haikyu!! To The Top” and “BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-”). Kenta Ihara is handling composition, while Miki Matsumoto is responsible for the character designs – a crucial element given the central premise of the protagonist’s unconventional looks. Ryo Kawasaki is composing the music. The involvement of White Fox guarantees a visually impressive and well-crafted experience for viewers.

The anime will premiere on July 6th at 11:30 p.m. JST (10:30 a.m. EDT) in Japan, airing on Tokyo MX and Sun TV channels.

The story isn’t stopping with the original series! A sequel manga, “Busamen Gachi Fighter SSS,” illustrated by Osamu Kozuki, recently began serialization on December 25th, 2024. Fans in English can follow along with the manga adaptation through Square Enix’s Manga Up! Global app.
