This return is considered a "quick comeback" following the end of "MF Ghost" in February. The new series promises to continue exploring the fascinating world of motorsport, intertwining the narratives of “Initial D” and “MF Ghost” to reveal what is described as the true legend of the fastest car.

Uniting Worlds: The Legacy of Initial D and MF Ghost

"Subaru and Subaru" is set a year after the events in "MF Ghost." Following Kanata Rivington's success in the MFG races, two new contenders emerge: Subaru Sato, from Gunma, and Suisei Kudo, from Kanagawa. Both are eager to prove their worth in a new racing series created by Fumihiro Joyu, which replaces the previous one, MFG. The premise is intriguing, as the two protagonists share the same name but with different kanji writing, suggesting an interlacing fate yet individual character development.

Introducing the New Protagonists: Subaru Sato and Subaru Kudo

The first protagonist, Subaru Sato, a talented female driver from Gunma, has captured attention due to her possible connection to Mako Sato from the "Initial D" universe. She is expected to receive direct training from Bunta Fujiwara, an iconic character known for his intimidating aura and passion for racing. The first edition of "Subaru and Subaru" will be available in "Young Magazine" on July 22, 2025, with its first tankobon volume scheduled to go on sale in Japan on November 6, 2025. To celebrate the launch, Young Magazine Web will offer 100 episodes of "MF Ghost" for free. However, the debut is not without concern: Shuichi Shigeno has revealed that he suffers from a heart condition and warned about the possibility that the manga serialization may face challenges due to his medical condition.
