The recent One Piece Day '25 event brought news that has ignited the excitement of fans worldwide: an anime based on the light novel series One Piece Heroines will be produced. Written by Jun Esaka and illustrated by Sayaka Suwa, this collection of short stories centered around the women of Eiichiro Oda’s pirate universe has captivated readers since its initial publication in One Piece Magazine. The news was announced with a striking visual featuring Nami and Robin, promising a new perspective on the world of One Piece from a female angle.

Where Do the Heroines Novels Come From?

The One Piece Heroines series has a history that dates back to 2019 when short stories began appearing in One Piece Magazine. In June 2021, Shueisha compiled these stories into the first official novel volume. Recently, in March 2024, a second volume titled One Piece novel HEROINES [Colorful] was published, further expanding perspectives on female characters. Viz Media has licensed and published both volumes in English, allowing international fans to enjoy these standalone stories that explore figures like Nami, Robin, Vivi, and Perona in the first volume, and Hancock, Tashigi, Reiju, and Uta in the second. The final chapter of the second volume features a conversation between Nami and Robin about the hygiene of the rest of the crew, a recurring and humorous theme within the franchise.

A Promising Creative Team

The new anime One Piece Heroines boasts a high-quality creative team that generates even greater expectations. Scriptwriting is handled by Momoka Toyoda, known for her work on One Piece: Fan Letter, a special story that was highly praised and even inspired an additional one-shot manga following the overwhelmingly positive fan response. Haruka Kamatani, director of One Piece in Love, leads the anime's direction, while Takashi Kojima, recognized for his work on Flip Flappers, is responsible for character design. Although there is no release date or details about the format (series or film) yet, fans eagerly await more information.

Fan Reactions and Wishes

The announcement has been received with widespread enthusiasm by the One Piece community, though it has also generated some specific requests. Many fans express their desire to see animated adaptations of novels dedicated to other key characters, such as Yamato, Ace, and Sanji. The story of Uta, Shanks the Red’s adopted daughter, has also sparked great interest. Others even request an adaptation for Baby 5, highlighting her complex motivations and emotional background. The success of One Piece: Fan Letter has further raised expectations, with fans anticipating that the Heroines anime will maintain the same narrative and visual quality that previously captivated audiences.
