The series, written by Fire Head and illustrated by KeG, originated as a web novel in 2018 before being published as a light novel by TO Books in 2021.
Synopsis and Plot
The story follows Mercedes Grunewald, a young vampire who is the illegitimate daughter of a nobleman and his concubine. Knowing her father will eventually choose an heir who isn't her, she fears for the future of her family, which includes her mother and an elderly maid. To secure their well-being, a ten-year-old Mercedes decides to take matters into her own hands by becoming a dungeon crawler. Thanks to her vampiric heritage, she has the potential to become incredibly strong. In her previous life, she died unfulfilled, but this time, Mercedes is determined to find a purpose and secure her own destiny.

"Mercedes and the Waning Moon" has had consistent development since its original publication as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2018. The series was subsequently adapted into an illustrated light novel by KeG, beginning its publication under TO Books in 2021.
